Perhaps you’ve heard of or even tried Naked Grouse Blended Malt Whisky? Naked Grouse became Naked Malt in May 2021. According to their website, the brand changed its name and packaging to highlight the essential aspects of its whisky—specifically, the use of ‘Naked’ first-fill sherry casks and ‘Malt,’ indicating that only the finest single malts are incorporated into the blend.

Each bottle of Naked Malt features one of the trademark casks etched into the glass, serving as an homage to the unique extra-maturation process that contributes to the distinctive and versatile character of the whisky inside. Additionally, the packaging was transformed to be 100% recyclable. To recognize the care and craftsmanship involved in creating Naked Malt, each bottle now bears the signature of the Master Blender, Diane Stewart.

According to the company, the liquid inside remains the same great-tasting, award-winning whisky it has always been. Recently, I found a bottle at my local spot and decided to try it. So, let’s dive in!

🥃 86 Proof

🥃 Blend of Single Malt Whiskies finished in First-fill Sherry casks

🥃 750 ml bottle purchased at the local Total Wine for $28.99

🥃 Tasted in a Glencairn whisky tasting glass

Appearance

In the glass, the whisky flaunts a deep amber hue, drawing the eye with its rich color and fast legs that hint at a robust texture.

Nose

The nose is an inviting introduction, showcasing an unmistakable Sherry influence. Aromas of stone fruits like cherries and plums take center stage, immediately captivating the senses. As I breathe in, fresh yeast rolls emerge alongside dry oak notes and a subtle hint of smoke. It's a great nose that promises an enjoyable journey ahead.

Palate

On the palate, Naked Malt truly shines with a delightfully creamy mouthfeel. Here, it flips the script from the nose, featuring those same fresh yeast rolls accented by a luscious sweet jam of plums and raisins that quickly dominates the taste experience. As the sip progresses, unexpected layers reveal themselves with notes of bitter chocolate and a dash of spicy peppers, adding depth and intrigue to each sip.

Finish

The finish is long and spicy, with just a whisper of peat smoke lingering pleasantly. This balanced combination makes Naked Malt a fantastic blended Scotch. It manages to present a complex profile while hitting all the right notes—something that's often hard to achieve.

Naked Malt Blended Malt Scotch presents itself as a standout choice for whiskey enthusiasts and casual drinkers alike. Overall, this blended malt is exceptional, perhaps one of the best blends I’ve tasted regardless of price. I confidently give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 ⭐️s. It's a must-try for anyone looking to explore the world of Scotch whisky!

Keep on sippin’, my friends!🥃
